MEDICAL ASSISTANT/PATIENT SERVICES REP SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for the patient flow in the office, referrals, verification of all patient information and resolution of patient inquiries as well as assist in all aspects of a medical practice under the direct supervision of the physician. DEPARTMENT: Urgent Care MAJOR DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Identify yourself to internal and external customers by wearing your identification badge at all times. 2. Greet patients with courtesy and respect. Answer questions and direct requests appropriately and efficiently. 3. Schedule patient appointments within the prescribed protocol. 4. Prepare charge tickets for the next day appointments. 5. Check-in patients. Greet all patients, obtain pertinent information, copy insurance cards as applicable, provide new patient forms, etc. 6. Verify and update as necessary, all pertinent information for each patient at time of appointment, (ie, insurance, telephone number, address, etc.). 7. Notify the physician’s nurse that a patient has arrived and provide nurse with appropriate documentation and information on the patient. 8. Collect all co-payments, deductibles and other monies owed at the time of service. 9. Check each patient out, including scheduling follow-up appointments. 10. Answer telephones promptly and in a professional manner. Take a comprehensive message when appropriate. If transferring the call, advise the patient prior to the transfer. Follow-up as appropriate to resolve the caller’s issues. 11. Operate computer within the guidelines of MCC. 12. Load new patient insurance information and changes to existing patient insurance information in the Practice Plus Point database. 13. Properly tag and route charge tickets for CBO. 14. Enter charges daily QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work 8am-6pm on weekdays and weekends. Demonstrated customer-service skills. Be a person of integrity and character, willing to embrace change and make a positive impact in the lives of patients and co-workers. Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner. Minimum education requirement is high school diploma or GED. Computer proficient. Typing skills; 40 cwpm preferred. Must be able to be mobile and to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time during an 8-hour workday. Must be able to work under stress and remain calm and professional. Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds. Must hold Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification, in accordance with American Heart Association training guidelines in effect at the time the training was conducted, prior to hire and/or transfer into this position. Must maintain current certification throughout employment in this position. Medical Assistant (MA) certification, or any other equivalent or comparable medical/clinical certification, registration or licensure is required and must be held at the time of hire and must remain current throughout employment in this position. Certification, registration or licensure must be provided through an accredited organization or appropriate licensing board
